The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has urged the new Commissioner of Police in Osun, Undie Adie, to ensure effective community policing in the state.
Ogunwusi made the plea while receiving the police chief who was accompanied by top policemen in the state on Wednesday in Ile-Ife.
The monarch said community policing had proven to be the best type of policing globally, urging the new commissioner to ensure its effective implementation.
“Your predecessors have done a wonderful job through which we are enjoying this level of peace in the ancient city of Ile-Ife and the state at large.
“I advise you to do more, particularly in policing of our local communities and the urban centres.
“I am aware of your bright professional records and good human qualities which all together will help you to succeed beyond imagination. I wish you well,” the Ooni said.
Earlier in his address, the police commissioner described the monarch as an indispensable stakeholder in the security sector.
Adie said that his visit was to seek the guidance, blessings and support of the Ooni to succeed in the task ahead.
“Kabiyesi, I have come to ask you to support me like you did to my predecessors through which they succeeded.
“Nobody knows your town and state than you do, I humbly seek your assistance to support the police with the rich knowledge of your immediate environment.
“On community policing, we believe in it and we are doing a lot to ensure that all parts of communities are safe for habitation and transaction of legal businesses,” he said.
The police commissioner pledged to utilise all in his capacity to save lives and properties of residents.(NAN)
