Remove Pharm Ahmad Tijjani as PCN chair, pharmacists appeal to President Buhari

By Hassan Zaggi

Nigerian pharmacists under the umbrella of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to remove Pharm. Ahmed Tijjani Mora, from being the Chairman of the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria (PCN).

PSN made the call through its National Secretary,

Emeka Duru, in Abuja, Monday, during a protest against the appointment of the PCN Chairman.

The PSN, however, regretted that, “against all rational logic and the tenets of Good Pharmacy Practice in Nigeria, the Dr. Osagie Enahire- led Federal Ministry of Health, in brazen act which is unprecedented decided to inaugurate a rejected Pharm. Ahmad Tijjani Mora, as the Chairman of PCN.

“The PCN rejects this appointment in its entirety because we are committed to stopping the challenges of value migration if we shall ever attain the goals of nation building.”

While advancing reasons for the rejection of the appointment of Pharm. Mora as the chairman of the PCN, the PSN alleged that: “Ahmed Mora is presently on the Roll of Dishonour of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) after being stripped of the Fellowship of the PSN. This led to the automatic suspension of his Membership of PSN since 2009.

“We ask how can a person who is technically suspended in the relevant profession (Pharmacy) be appointed Chief Regulator of the same profession.

“A. T. Mora is said to have emerged Professor of Clinical Pharmacy after 6 years of emerging a full-time academic from 2012 to 2017. For a man claims to have a Ph. D in Management, how did he suddenly become a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in Nigeria?

“There is evidence based clarification that Pharm. Mora falsified, to his personal advantage, some existing Pharmacy and Drug laws which certainly is not in public interest.

“We strongly urge you, gentlemen of the press, to conduct investigations into the career profile of Pharm. Mora and the vicious cycle of inglorious exit he has always encountered.

“Specifically, find out the circumstances of his exit as Director of Pharmaceutical Services in Kaduna State, Managing Director, Zaria Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Registrar/Secretary, PCN and Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy, Kaduna State University.”

The PSN, therefore, called on, “the Presidency and its full apparatus to immediately remove Pharm. A. T. Mora as Chairman of the PCN.

“We remind the Federal Government of its anti-corruption mantra and the dire need to halt the unwholesomeness at PCN now.”
