The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has refuted claims by the Kano Water Board that inadequate power supply from KEDCO was responsible for its low water supply, insisting that it generates enough power to the facilities of the Water Board.
The AUTHORITY recalls that the Management of Kano Water Board recently accused KEDCO of partly sabotaging adequate supply of water to Kano metropolis, alleging that the power distribution company supplies inadequate power to the Water Works, particularly, the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, despite collecting a standard bill of N150 million monthly.
In a statement signed by KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Ibrahim Sani Shawai and made available to journalists in Kano on Friday, the power distribution company described claims by the Kano Water Board as, “false and baseless.”
According to the statement, “this is totally false and baseless as power supply in all states under KEDCO’s franchise area, have witnessed massive improvement in the last three months and everyone in Kano Metropolis and environs can testify to this.
“Below are the power supply statistics to Tamburawa water treatment plant: in April 21:41hrs, May: 22:16hrs
June: 18:40hrs. Similarly Challawa water plant got 22:48hrs in April, May: 22:42hrs and June: 21:14hrs. Based on analysis, Challawa and Tamburawa get daily power supply of between 20 and 23 hours.
“Also the feeders that supply Challawa and Tamburawa are important feeders to KEDCO as it will always get supply as long as there is supply from the national grid; so the claim by Kano Water Board has no base as far as KEDCO is concerned.
“Hence, the claims by Kano Water Board has no relation with the image of KEDCO and we wish to advise the Water Board to take responsibility for their inefficiency and keep KEDCO out of its blame game.”
