The Minster of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi has disclosed that the $50 million University of Transportation to be built at Daura, Katsina State, the home town of President Muhammadu Buhari, is not a rail contract but a gift from the Chinese.
President Buhari had in December 2019 performed a ground breaking ceremony of the University with its original completion date completion was pegged at September 2020.
Ameachi explained that construction work was yet to start as they only just got the approval from the state government.
He said: “Proper construction will start at the end of September and hopefully they should be about to complete it at the end of September next year.
“This is not a railway contract. This is a gift from them. I have said my assumption is that they should finish by next year September.
“We are here to find out whether they’ve commenced construction. Don’t forget that it is a gift, so they may not be as dedicated as they will be when it comes to a proper contract.
“But what they’ve assured us is that whether it is a gift or not, they will give it the same attention they give to the railway construction”.
Further speaking on how the school is expected to operate upon completion, he disclosed that, “they will provide all that for five years by which time the Federal Government should have been able to get its own technical staff”.
