With no declared results, PDP sweeps Ebonyi council polls

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the weekend won all the 13 chairmanship and 215 ward electoral councillorship seats in Ebonyi state.

The local government election was conducted by the State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC, on Saturday, in the 13 Local Government areas and the 215 electoral wards across Ebonyi state

Our correspondent who monitored the election reports that the electoral materials arrived to various polling units as early as 8:30am while accreditation started around 9am in most of the voting centers.

Announcing the winners on Sunday in Abakiliki, Chairman of EBSIEC, Mr Jossy Eze, said that the commission has ratified and adopted the chairmanship results for the 13 LGAs as announced by various LGA returning officers and the councillorship results announced at the 171 electoral wards.

According to the commission, Emmanuel Nwangele won the chairmanship position for Abakaliki LGA, Mrs Obiageri Oko-Enyim —Afikpo North, Chief Eni Uduma – Afikpo South, and Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga –Ebonyi LGA.

“Dr Nora Alo won the Chairmanship seat for Ezza North LGA, Mr Kenneth Eze —Ezza South LGA, Chief Stephen Orogwu —Ikwo LGA, Mr Henry Eze —Ishiellu, and Mr Onyebuchi Ogbadu—Ivo LGA.

“Chief Paul Nwogha won the chairmanship position for Izzi LGA, Mrs Chinyere Iyioku —Ohaozara LGA, Clement Odah —Ohaukwu LGA, and Mr Felix Igboke—Onicha LGA,” he said.

The EBSIEC Chairman, however, declined to disclose the figures of the results from all the local governments .

At Onuofokwuru market square, polling unit 013, Governor David Umahi was seen casting his vote at some minutes past 1pm alongside his family members.

Umahi described the exercise as peaceful while commending PDP stalwarts for coming out in their numbers to vote their choice candidates.

He also commended EBSIEC for conducting a free, fair and credible local government election in the Ebonyi state.

Umahi disclosed that more than 10 political parties participated in the election stating he was optimistic that the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP would emerge victorious having performed creditably in the last 3 years of their administration.
