APGA ex-presidential candidate seeks credible elections in Edo, Ondo

By Felix Khanoba

The former presidential candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Maj. Gen. John Gbor (Rtd) has called for credible and violence free governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states scheduled for September and October this year.

Gbor, who made the call in Abuja while receiving State Coordinators of a Non-Governmental Organization, Network of Leaders Alliance, expressed concern over the level of electoral malpractices in the country.

He said the only way to ensure good governance and proper leadership was through free and fair elections even as he called on electorates not to sell their votes but elect individuals that can deliver dividends of democracy.

The retired Major General also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to be committed to the success and peaceful conduct of the elections.

While urging all political parties and stakeholders in the forthcoming guber polls to give peace a chance, Maj. Gen. Gbor (rtd) said election was all about service to humanity and not avenue for illegal wealth acquisition.

He also reminded the National Assembly of the need to commence work on the Electoral Reform Bill to strengthen the nation’s democratic system.

Earlier, the National Coordinator of the Organization, Dr John Paul, said the visit was to recognize the contributions of Major General John Gbor to the well-being of the less privileged, youths and women in the society.

Paul expressed the readiness of the organization to support Gbor’s activities in uplifting the living standard of Nigerians through the John Gbor Foundation.
