INEC set for Edo guber polls as sensitive materials arrive Benin CBN office

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared its readiness to conduct a free fair and credible governorship election on Saturday in Edo state.

INEC has in its desire to conduct a credible poll worked in conjunction with the General Abdul Salam Abubakar led Peace group, initiated the signing of peace accord by rival governorship candidates of over fourteen political parties, including the major actors, incumbent Governor Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Osagie Ize Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC)

This is even as sensitive materials for the conduct of the governorship election arrived at the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Benin on Wednesday.

The INEC Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Edo, Mr Timidi Wariowei, confirmed the arrival of the materials to newsmen.

“The materials for the conduct of Saturday’s governorship election have arrived the CBN.

“We just went and inspected the sensitive materials in cartons, the ballot papers, and the results sheets.

“And just now, the Braille ballot guide for persons with disabilities especially the visually-impaired just arrived.

“We are set for the election. From tomorrow morning (September 17), as early as 7.30 a.m., we will start the distribution to various Local Government Areas,” he added.

Also, Mr Kelly Ogbaloi, the state chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) disclosed that INEC had invited agents of the various political parties to inspect the materials at the CBN.

“Everything is intact, we just inspected the materials and we are satisfied,” he said.
