2023: South east group set to unveil Igbo best eleven for presidency

From Everest Ezihe, Owerri

As agitations have continued to mount for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction a group, South East Coalition for Good Governance, (SECG), has announced its readiness to unveil those it described as “Igbo First Eleven, competent enough to aspire for the country’s presidency in 2023”

The Coalition had last month advised National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to shelve his presidential ambition in 2023, and support the quest by Igbo to produce the nation’s next president after the expiration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure

Rising from its emergency meeting in Owerri on Wednesday SECG maintained that it has considered for the Presidency “are men and women of quality, competent, capable, that would be acceptable to the North, and recognized in the South

The resolution, which was signed by Fidelis Ukandu, President of the Coalition said “the first Eleven will be announced at the appropriate time, adding that the coalition will embark on consultations across the country to market the candidature of those it selected if it gets the approval of those involved to do so.

The group however noted that it will go ahead to reduce the number of those it has shortlisted to five, noting “it is irrevocably committed to ensure the success of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in 2023”
