The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has reaffirmed it’s commitment to the Promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms of persons globally without distinction.
Consequently, the Government has just signed the Charter of Understanding with Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights (OHCHR) to strengthen human rights cooperation and technical assistance in the country.
Venezuelan Ambassador to Nigeria, David Velasquez disclosed this Friday in Abuja in a statement he forwarded to the National Human Rights commission , ECOWAS, and other relevant institutions in Nigeria.
According to the Ambassador the new agreement includes the tripling of the number of human rights officers with greater autonomy, ratifying the condemnation and arbitrary and illegal imposition of Unilateral Coercive Measures that negatively impact the enjoyment of human rights in the country.
Furthermore, the envoy disclosed that the Venezuelan government also accepted to receive the International Human Rights ( IHC), Special Rapporteurs on the negative impact of the Unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights and the right to development.
It was also noted that the recent Decree of Presidential Pardon by the Venezuelan government withdrawing criminal action of 110 Venezuelans that were prosecuted and condemned for various offences as a demonstration of positive democratic principles by his country.
.According to Ambassador Velasquez the whole effort is to prove to the World that Venezuela consolidating political dialogue, democracy and understanding in the country with all stakeholders.
Velasquez called for the respect of the Principles of international right of no interference in internal affairs, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
“The IHC must always act on the basis of the mandate established in the UN General Assembly Resolution 60/251 of 2006 in a fair and equal manner .” he said
