How gun runners killed DSS operative in Plateau

A personnel of the Department of the State Security Service (DSS), on Wednesday night was killed in an exchange of fire between security personnel and gun runners in Kalong village of Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The deceased, Barrister Muktar Moddibo, hailed from Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi state.

Investigation by The AUTHORITY revealed that the remains of Moddibo have since been recovered and deposited at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).

A security source told THE AUTHORITY that, “the incident occurred during a joint operation with the Nigeria Military Kalong village where Moddibo was hit by a bullet in the gun battle with a gun runners.

It was reliably gathered that the security operatives including the DSS were reported to have stormed the village in search of a leader of gun runners and other armed syndicates following a tip-up of the whereabouts of some gun dealers located in the area.

The incident is coming in the midst of the on-going operation by the DSS to track down kidnappers, armed bandits, and gunrunners terrorising different parts of the state.

It would be recalled that the ongoing operation had led to the arrest of the killer of a University of Jos lecturer, Dr. Joanna Drenkat, who was killed by a syndicate of kidnappers and arms were also recovered.
