Hoodlums kill Police Officer in Rivers

A police officer attached to Special Anti-robbery Squad(SARS) headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State was Wednesday night killed by suspected hoodlums at Oyigbo area of the state.

The AUTHORITY gathered that the victim, a native of Enugu state was abducted by unknown gunmen later found killed at the boundary between Oyigbo in Rivers and Ania State.

It was learned that the officer whose name was yet to acertain at press was on special duty at Oyigbo when the incident occurred.

We gathered that at about 9:30pm he took permission from his boss to get some food to eat but was ambushed by his abducted who took him to a bush in the area and slaughtered him.

The AUTHORITY further gathered that it was passersby who saw the deceased dead body and alerted the Police.

A source who pleaded anonymity, disclosed to this Daily that it took a combined efforts of officers attached to tactical units of Rivers State Police Command to curtail a rampaging hoodlums same night terrorising some communities in the area.

The source said that the tactical units which include, Operation Sting, Anti-Cultism and others chased the hoodlums until they reiterated back to a neighbouring state.

A police officer who was part of the operation revealed that the hoodlums mutilated the body of the deceased officer indicating that the officer was killed in a very cruel manner.

It would be recalled that the spokesperson of Rivers State Police command, SP Nnamdi Omoni in a pre-Independence day statement warned hoodlums acting in the guise of proscribed IPOB members to stay off the state or face the full wrath of the law.

SP Omoni had revealed that the Rivers State Police command made adequate deployment to curtail activities of miscreants that may want to cause trouble on Independence day.

However, the command has confirmed the killing incident.

As at press time, Omoni said the police has established investigation to arresting the perpetrators, adding that normal activities has commenced in the area.
