DSS deny attempting to arrest Igboho

By Chuks Oyema-Aziken

The Department of State Services has refuted news reports that it attempted to arrest Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo alias Sunday Igboho on Friday.

Sunday Igboho has been at the forefront of the fight against killer herdsmen in the south-west region.

Earlier on Friday, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode had raised alarm that there was an attempt by security forces to arrest Igboho.

According to Fani-Kayode “I just spoke to my brother Sunday Igboho. He told me there was a violent attempt to arrest him this afternoon by a joint team of soldiers, DSS operatives & policemen numbering about 40 on the Ibadan/Lagos Expressway whilst he was on his way to see Baba Ayo Adebanjo in Lagos,” he tweeted.

“I condemn this attempt to ambush& abduct him. It is not only reckless but also very dangerous. If the security agencies want to see him all they need to do is to invite him to their office. I am not aware of any crime that he has committed & I urge restraint on all sides.”

DSS in a press release signed by Dr. Peter Afunanya, Public Relations Officer, Department of State Services National Headquarters, said the news on attempted arrest of Igboho is misinforming and should taken as fake and therefore be disregarded.
