An anti curruption crusader organization based in UK with branches in over 25 countries of the world, Global Peace Movement International has express confidence that the newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba will address issues that affects the efficiency and effectiveness of the force

President General of the group, Dr Mike Uyi stated this in a press statement in London on Friday.

Uyi said as a well-educated officer ingrained with the nuances of police duties. Usman Alkali Baba takes over against the backdrop of the general security challenges in Nigeria.

“Aware of the expectations of President Muhammadu Buhari but also the larger Nigerian society, he should see the urgency of rolling up his sleeves to address the insecurity situation we found ourselves in the country”.

“For a start, GPMI will advice the new Police chief to set up an organ to check police performance across the country especially their activities and conduct on the highways, at police stations and other formations nationwide”.

“Though Baba is assuming office at a very turbulent time in Nigeria. Threats to law, order and public safety, the role of law enforcement and particularly that of the police force as primary agency charged with maintaining law and order is still considered very important.”

Uyi further stated that the police institution is the first line of defence against crime and anarchy and the first sign of the strength of Nigeria.

“We all expect that Baba will justify the confidence posed on him, to enable Nigeria return to it’s peaceful co-existance.”

Uyi said the task ahead of the new I-G calls for support of Nigerians, irrespective of any differences to enable him tackle the security challenges in the country.

“l call on Nigerians to cooperate with the new I-G so that, together, we could attain the peace we once enjoyed in the land,” he said.

Uyi said that GPMI can testify to his virtue of honesty of purpose in ensuring a peaceful society.

He said that his appointment came at a time Nigerians needed a man who has the vision and road map to bring an end to the security challenges in the country.

“Given the task before him, he needs our sincere advice, suggestions and prayers on the useful directions forward for a safe society devoid of any form of criminality.

” I wish to officially declare that Nigerians in diaspora are solidly in solidarity with him and are ready to work with him for a better Nigeria”.
