Disturbed by own killing of an Army Commander and his soldiers in Mainok the commanders of Operation Lafiya Dole have devised new pre-emptive and swift counter-terrorism strategies aimed at dealing lethal blows to the Boko Haram/Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in North-East zone.

in one of such exploits, troops have ambushed and conducted clearance operations, killing scores of ISWAP/ Boko Haram terrorists in Wulgo and Gwoza axis of Borno State.

Sources, according to PRNigeria, disclosed that the strategies paid off in the operations where troops repelled attacks and pre-empted strikes.

The source said: “At Wulgo near Gamboru, the AirTaskforce were able to destroy two guntrucks of the terrorists, while the ground troops captured three other guntrucks.

“Bodies of the terrorists littered in the areas and there was no reported casualty on the side of the troops.

“The Gwoza operation was successfully executed after credible intelligence showed that terrorists were advancing towards Lokodissa-Yamtake axis with a mission to infiltrate military facility in area.

“The operation was successfully carried out in spite of the rocky and hilly town that borders Cameroon.”

Meanwhile, troops also cleared Boko Haram settlements and camps in the mountainous Kwatara axis around Mandara mountains.

During exchange of fire, Nigerian troops pursued the terrorists beyond Mango plantations.

The military source said: “With the support of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in conjunction with the Civilian JTF, the troops pursued the terrorists who fled uphill.

“Because of the rugged terrain, the military deployed mortar, artillery and Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) in shelling the targets during the operation.”

Acting General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army 7 Division, Brig-Gen. Abdulwahab Eyitayo, visited some of the military formations and commended the troops for the actions against the terrorists.
