By Daniel Tyokua

There is palpable fear in Karu one of the populated Abuja suburbs over likely escalation of violent protest by motorcycle operators.

The motorcycle operators popularly known as Okada on Sunday protested the continued killing of their members at dumpsite, near St. Mary Catholic Church, Karu by unknown men.
An eyewitness and residents of Karu, Malam Abdullahi Ahmed told The AUTHORITY that the motor operators were angered by the endless killing of their members in the area.

“The Okada protested this morning in Karu because of the killing and snatching of their members motorcycle without any serious action by the police.

“Again, they alleged that the security operative in the area, especially the Police have failed them. They said since the killing started we have been reporting it but no arrest has been made”

Another residents, Terry Gbamakun said the Okada were protesting because no one cares about their plights, killing and stealing of their motorcycle remain unabated”

The protest which began around 11am yesterday forced many churches in the area to lock their gates and residents to stay indoors.
Religious centres which were opened for Sunday service have asked members to remain indoors to avoid being attacked by the protesters.

The angrieved motorcycle operators razed down police outpost in area as well as grounded other activities.

However, there was no official statement from the police during the time of filling this report, but operatives of the Nigeria army have been deployed to the area to restore law and order.
Residents of Karu, Jikwoyi, Kurudu, Orozo, Karshi, among other towns in the area, are affected by the development.
