Governor Abdullahi A Sule of Nasarawa state, on Saturday, called for a minute silence as a sign of respect for the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru and other officers of the Nigerian military who died in a plane crash on Friday.
Sule called for the silence in Akwanga LGA on Saturday, shortly before he flagged off the construction of a 300 sitting capacity event centre and remodelling of government lodge Akwanga.
In a press statement which followed suit moments later, governor Sule said his encounter with late General Attahiru in the course of the nation’s collective efforts at tackling insecurity showed a remarkable officer dedicated to the service of Nigeria.
“I received the news of death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru and other officers of the Nigerian military with shock and profound sadness.
“The tragic occurrence at a time governments at all levels, the armed forces and other security apparatus are stepping up efforts to solve the country’s many challenges is most unfortunate,” the governor said.
Sule condoled President Muhammadu Buhari, the Chief of Defence staff, the military, family and the friends of the departed officers as he prayed to God to give their families the fortitude to bear the painful loss.
