Igbo group condemns Gov Ganduje’s assault on Kwankwaso poster

A political group Igbozuluezu Socio/Political Union (ISU) has condemned in a strong term the recent assault melted on the poster of national leader of Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, by the governor of Kano Sate, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who was reported to had deliberately stepped on the poster of former Governor Kwankwaso, at a recent political rally in Kano.

The group accused the governor, Ganduge, of disrespect and mounting a continuous campaign to run down the looming image of the former governor, whose influence and political sagacity have remained constant in the state and Nigeria at large.

“ We are dismayed and totally disappointed on the report which got to us that Governor Ganduje has again, began his campaign of calumny to run down his predecessor, Former Governor, Senator Ganjude. It is recently reported in some national media outlets that Governor Ganduje, recently, in a political rally of his party held in Kano, deliberately marched on the poster of Senator Kwankwaso, to the cheering of his supporters, who urged him on with all sorts of name-calling and degenerating words, just to score non-existing political points.

“ We believe that such show of shame as exhibited by somebody on the person of the governor, who Former governor kwankwaso brought up politically, was uncalled for, as we know that the two political big wigs in Kano state, have nothing they are presently dragging to warrant the negative attitude and childish action of Ganduje,” the group stated in a press statement sent to media houses and signed by Dr Oliver Onyeka and Chief Orlando Smith, president and secretary of the socio-political association respectively.

While acknowledging the last minute denial of the governor, that he never marched on the poster of Senator Kwankwasiyya, the group noted that such denial was “meant to safe the governor’s image because of the deluge of condemnation that trailed the dastardly and ungentlemanly act.”

But Kano state government has since denied that the governor deliberately stepped on the poster of the former governor of the state.

The state commissioner of Information, Muhammed Garba, in a statement said the incident which happened during an APC rally in Kano was “ totally unpremeditated.”

The group therefore called on the governor to accord respect to the former governor who has remained a colossus in the political affairs of the country, and has continued to champion the lifting of the down-trodden otherwise known as the talakawas in the ancient city of Kano.
