* hails predecessors
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has called for synergy and cooperation between security agencies and individuals in addressing the current security challenges facing the country, while commending his predecessors.
The Inspector general made this remarks when he received the Award of Expectation from members of the Global Peace Movement International in his office in Abuja.
He said his predecessors did their best in fighting insecurity. “There is a lot of improvement in some areas in the country, but there is need for us to put our heads together to completely end all criminality in the country,” he said.
According to him “We cannot afford to lose more souls to the killings that is going on in our country, hence it’s expedient that stakeholders in security affairs work together towards making our country a secured nation devoid of rancour”, he said.
While presenting the award to the IGP, President General of the group, Dr. Mike Uyi calls for a sober reflection and for everyone to take responsibility to secure their lives, families and people in their environment.
He also charged governments both at the federal and state levels to live up to expectation and make the welfare of people who dedicated their lives to security services, especially the Nigerian Police force paramount.
Uyi also advocated for an increase in allowances payable to them and equally asked for the strengthening of the work force.
“IGP Usman Alkali Baba’s appointment came at a promising time, when Nigerians need a man who has the vision and a road map towards bringing an end to the various insecurity challenges obstructing economic activities with the colossal loss of lives and property.”
“Given the task before him, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, no doubt, needs our sincere suggestions and prayers on the useful directions forward for a safe society devoid of any form of criminality”.
“As a man that gave the citizens a listening, we exhort the IGP to remain open to constructive criticism for sincere viewpoints on the way forward towards a peaceful society”.
