Oshiomhole extolls Gov Bello Matawalle for defecting to APC

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has welcomed Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State to the ruling party.
Oshiomhole, in a letter personally signed and made available to journalists in Benin on Saturday, said it was with great pleasure, relief and deep sense of personal satisfaction that he welcomed Matawalle to the APC.

According to Oshiomhole, “It takes a man of courage, conscience, principles and honour to make the long-awaited move, which not many politicians in our clime would have the audacity to undertake.’’

The former Edo governor said that he was absolutely confident that all APC stakeholders in Zamfara would welcome Matawalle with open arms and accord the governor the well-earned respect that he richly deserved.

Oshiomhole said, “I’ve for long looked forward to this day when you’ll reunite with the APC, your original party, so that the good works and impressive performance which the people of Zamfara enjoy under your administration will be accurately documented as legacies of APC.

“I’m delighted that coming to the APC with your legion of supporters isn’t only a boost for our great party in terms of numbers.

“It brings on board our platform, a sound mind, accomplished administrator and proven performer who has won the admiration of the Zamfara people by virtue of exceptional leadership.

“I’ve absolute confidence that all APC stakeholders in the state will welcome you with open arms and accord you the well earned respect that you richly deserve.’’

Recall that Matawalle dumped the PDP for the APC on June 29 at a rally which witnessed a mammoth crowd in Gusau.

Gov Umahi suspends Ebonyi’s Auditor-General, appoints replacement

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has directed the state’s Auditor-General, Mr Samuel Uduma, to proceed on indefinite suspension due to poor performance.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kenneth Ugbala, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.

Ugbala, in the statement, said that the suspension took effect from July 1, as Mr Emmanuel Arua had been appointed the state’s Acting Auditor-General.

“A four-man committee has been set up to reposition the state Auditor-General’s office and audit all accounts and manpower of the government.

“This audit covers the state and local government areas accounts from 2015 to 2019, 2019 to 2020 and the 2021 mid-term report,” the statement said.
It listed members of the committee to include Mr Emmanuel Arua (Chairman), Mr Joseph Igwe, Mrs Blessing Abia and Mrs Chinyere Chukwu as members.

“All concerned are thereby directed to strictly comply with this directive,” the statement said.

Enough of borrowing, seek help – Lawmaker tells Buhari

A federal lawmaker in the House of Representatives has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to desist from borrowing money frequently for the country.
The lawmaker, Oluwole Oke, representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency advised the President to seek the help of financial advisors who will help him pull the country out of its economic doldrums instead of borrowing.

Oke stated this at a special Convocation ceremony of Joseph Ayo Babalola University, JABU, Ikeji Arakeji, Osun State.

Oke who is the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, told Buhari to improve on accountability and transparency amid Nigeria’s increasing debt profile rather than embarking on a borrowing spree.
While urging Buhari to invest in human capital and aim to create enabling environment for investments, Oke maintained that the lack of economic advisors was the reason for policy somersault in the country.

He also suggested that the embargo on unemployment in the country be lifted, adding that the country would continue to witness underdevelopment in all sectors if the problems of policy somersault were not properly addressed.

“The challenge before this country is because of economic policies somersault and I want to enjoin the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to engage a seasoned economist in his government.

“I have not seen a single economist in this government and that’s why we continue to have problems bordering on revenue leakages, the revenue is there, but we continue to be borrowing.”
