New Cabinet: Uzodimma keeps loyalists in suspense

From Everest Ezihe, Owerri

Confusion and suspense seems to have enveloped loyalists of Governor Hope Uzodimma, over his continued silence and delay in appointing new Commissioners, Special Advisers, SAs and Senior Special Assistants, SSAs.

More worrisome is the fact that none of the Governor’s close allies is in the know of those whom he wants to appoint or not, either as Commissioner, Special Adviser or Senior Special Assistant as they are daily been besieged by lobbyists.

“Everyone is in the dark unlike in the past where those seeking appointments were monitoring their chances” said a source privy to undercurrents over the appointments.

It’s pertinent to recall that it is about two months now, Governor Uzodimma sacked his Commissioners, retaining only nine.

Barely one month he relinquished most of his Commissioner’s from theirs duty postt he fired his Special Advisers and Senior Special Assistants, in his first major sweep of his cabinet since he became governor and political pundits in the state described the action as a political tsunami that needed to have been revisited by now.

Ironically, the state Information Commissioner, Hon.Declan Emelumba had said that the sack of the Commissioners and SAs, were nothing unusual and in line with plans by the Governor to “rejig” his administration.

This newspaper observed that majority of those sacked by the Governor are seriously seeking to be re appointed either as Commissioners or SAs.

“The lobbying for re appointment is intense, but I can tell you only the Governor knows those he wants to appoint or not. Anyone telling you he has seen the list or have an idea of those appointed, is telling you a white lie.

“He is keeping it close to his chest and until the d day when the new names will be announced and for now nobody is sure of anything.

There are however feelers that the members of the new cabinet will be announced after the APC Congresses, which is expected to kick off on July 31.
