Court Nullifies Ohanaeze Ndigbo FCT Election

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, July 22, 2021, nullifies the elections conducted by Ohanaeze Ndigbo Federal Capital Territory (FCT), granting the plea of the applicant.

Following a case brought before his Lordship, Justice O. C. Agbaza of Court 7, FCT with plaintiff as Chief John Ogbuu while the first defendant Chief John Nnia Nwodo, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, while second defendant is Chief Simon Okeke (alias Ochendo) with file number FCT/HV/CY/2726/2020.

The Presiding Judge faulted the election and pronounced that the defendants violated the initial court order and went ahead with impunity to conduct an election which the court of competent jurisdiction ordered them otherwise, for the overriding interest of peace.

The presiding Judge described the exercise as a sham and kangaroo elections and gave an order that there should be no election till further notice, until the court decides that was restoration of peace in the arena.

The court ascertained that the Eze-Ibe Nwosu group violated the court order and terms of agreement for a peaceful resolution and, against the pronouncement of the court, went ahead and conduct an election.

The presiding Judge therefore, warned the defendants to henceforth stop parading themselves, failure to which they will face the wrath of the law. As well, they have been warned to maintain the status quo.
