The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has charged the newly promoted Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) to deploy their knowledge, experience and competence to the protection of lives and property of Nigerians.
He gave the charge while decorating 24 newly promoted AIGs in Abuja, Monday.
It would be recalled that 167 Senior Police officers were recently promoted by the Police Service Commission following the recommendation of the IGP.
The IGP noted that the promotion of officers as at when due is a critical component of his administration which is aimed at motivating the officers to be dedicated to their work.
He, however, expressed optimism that the newly decorated AIGs will put in their best, considering that most of them will be deployed to critical areas.
The IGP noted that the promotion of officers which is part of his manpower development policy of the Force is a deliberate protocol to identify, elevate, and position professionally competent officers who will act as the strategic police managers that will drive the new policing vision and give effect to strategies at responding to current and emerging security threats in the country.
The policy, according to him, also focusses on human capacity development and welfare of Police officers for better police service delivery.
The IGP, however, applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for consistently committing to the Nigeria Police reform agenda.
Speaking, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, said that partnership and synergy among security agencies in the country was the only way to defeat adversaries of the country.
According to him, each security agency has its own competencies and specialty, hence, there must be synergy among all them for meaningful progress to be achieved in the fight against enemies of the country.
The Army Chief reiterated that “no adversary can defeat the collective efforts of the security agencies, therefore, there must be partnership and cooperation among us.”
The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bala Ciroma, was among those that were decorated with the rank of AIG at the occasion.
