Karshi residents commends FG over erosion control, road improvement project

Residents of Kurudu and Angwan Gwari (Karshi) Abuja have commended the Federal Government for the recently completed erosion control and road improvement project in the area.


The project was executed by the Ecological Fund Office, Office of  Secretary to the Government of the Federation.


The Sarkin Karshi, HRH Alhaji Ismaila Danladi on behalf of his subjects commended the government and said the project has brought succor to residents in the affected areas.


Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr Habiba Lawal said that the project was initiated through a request for an urgent intervention forwarded to the Ecological Fund Office by the Sarkin Karshi in order to arrest the continuous erosion, flooding and other ecological challenges in the communities and to avoid further environmental degradation, loss of lives and properties.

The Permanent Secretary represented by the Director, Soil Erosion and Flood Control, Engr. Felix Okeke commended the Project Contractor, Messers Teamwork Construction and Engineering Services Limited and Consultant, Messers Infinity Design and Construction Nigeria Limited for tirelessly working to meet the project implementation schedule.


She urged the residents to take over and exercise ownership over the project, to ensure its maintenance and sustainability that the resources which the Federal Government had committed to the project must not be allowed to waste.


Commissioning the Project, Honourable member representing Awe/Doma/Keana Federal constituencies, Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba said the project was one of the five additional ecological intervention projects approved by Mr. President for the third and fourth quarters, 2019.

He said the contract was awarded by the EFO Tenders Board (EFOTB) in July 2020. 


According to him, the importance of the project is to address the devastating effects of erosion and flood menace in the communities.


Hon Abubakar said the completion of the project underscores the Federal Government’s concerted effort and sincerity of purpose in tackling problems of its citizens and making life more meaningful for the people. 


He noted that the project was a testimony to the present administration’ committment to the welfare of all the citizens.
