By Myke Uzendu, Abuja

Governor of Edo State and Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) e-registration exercise, Gov. Godwin Obaseki has disclosed that the party is targeting about 40million members in its e-registration exercise that will kick-off next week nation wide.
Obaseki while addressing party stake holders comprising of Board of Trustees Members (BoT),  members of the PDP governor forum, members of former governors forum, former ministers, former Senators, former Presiding officer of the National Assembly and various stakeholders at the PDP headquarters on Tuesday announced that he has already kicked off an e-registration pilot scheme in some states and assured that favourable acceptance and results are already trickling in.
He urged all party stakeholders to mobilize their supporters for the exercise and explained that membership cards for successful applicants will be processed at the Party’s Headquarters and returned to members through their wards.
He said “Our target is to register 40million Nigerians as members of PDP and once we achieve that we shall win every election landslide going forward and there will be no bases to cheat us as was done in the past.
“I want to reiterate that the process of e-registration is local, it is meant for us leaders at the ward level and at the local government level to own our party the PDP. Every leader must now show us their followers by registering their followers as members of the party, PDP.
“Once you have registered and have completed the process, your party card will be printed here at the party Secretariat and sent to the ward for distribution to members of the party.
“As at today, we are launching a pilot of the resignation exercise using the following state as pilot: Adamawa state, Ekiti, Osun where we almost have 250,000 new voters registered mostly by our party in the ongoing CVR exercise. The whole idea is to make sure that the bulk of those new voters are members of our party and will work for our party in the upcoming election in Osun State.
“The other states are Taraba State, Anambra, Enugu and Edo State. We will run a pilot from today till Sunday this week and from Monday next week, we shall commence a full national rollout”.

Also in his comments party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus describes the e-registration exercise as the way forward into digitizing the country.
“Today’s formal launching is like taking Nigeria to the space, it’s like launching a satellite. PDP is adopting a technology that will join the global space of digital technology.
“We are going to acquire this big data for the use of our youths especially migrating from the analogue, the way we used to register before, it was difficult. It is a legacy project.
“You cannot say that anyone is in control or that they refused to allow you to register or they have taken the register away from you and you can no longer  her register.
“The world is going digital, Nigeria must go digital, we cannot lack behind”.
Present at the event were all the PDP governors and other stakeholders.
