Police In Kano Arrest 22 Hoodlums, Recover Tricycles, Motorcycles, Illicit Drugs, Dangerous Weapons

In a coordinated clearance operation, police in Kano on Tuesday paraded 22 hoodlums otherwise known as Yan Daba, who were arrested in their various hideouts between August 14 and 17, 2021.


Parading the suspects on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, the Kano state police Command Image-Maker, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the operation was in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman, on community-based policing.


He added that the Command has intensified its efforts to rid Kano state of all forms of crime and criminality, especially the menace of thuggery (Daba), drug abuse and other social vices, with reports obtained on the activities of remnants of thugs (‘Yan Daba) in some areas within Kano Metropolis.


 He said the operation was carried out by a team of police men led by SP Bashir Musa Gwadabe, Officer-in-Charge, Anti Daba Unit, under the instruction of CP Dikko, who directed them to liaise with members of the community in those areas and carryout the clearance operations.  


DSP Haruana named those arrested to include: Aliyu Yakubu (23) of Sharada Quarters Kano, Dayyabu Mohd (25) of Madigawa Quarters Kano, Tukur Sani (20) of Sharada Quarters Kano, Sirajo Yusuf (28) of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters Kano, Abdullahi Sabiu, (20) of Hauren Gwale Quarters Kano, Sani Ahmed (19) of Koki Quarters Kano, Adamu Umar, (20)years of Kofar Ruwa Quarters Kano.


Others are  Yahaya Ibrahim,  (30) of Ayagi Quarters Kano,  Rayyanu Ibrahim, (21) of Kwana Hudu Quarters Kano, Abba Umar, (25)  of Gwale Quarters Kano, Suleiman Yakubu, (33) of Durumin Kaigama Quarters Kano, Mohammed Aminu, (18) of Dorayi Quarters Kano, Ahmed Isa, (19) of Sheka Quarters Kano.


The police team also arrested Naziru Lawan, (30) of Kurna Quarters Kano, Khalifa Sidi (19)  of Dorayi Quarters Kano, Aliyu Ibrahim (20) of Bachirawa Quarters Kano, Halifa Garba (23) of Dorayi Quarters Kano, Umar Sani (18)  of Goron Dutse Quarters Kano, Jibrin Aminu (20) of Goron Dutse Quarters Kano,  Halifa Yahaya (21) of Kofar mazugal Quarters Kano, Abdulrazak Abdulrahman (20) of Gwale Quarters Kano, and Halifa Yusuf (17) of Dorayi Quarters Kano.


  According to him, “suspects were arrested with a tricycle and four motorcycles suspected to be stolen, dangerous weapons, 32 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, and large quantity of Illicit drugs and all have confessed to their offences.”


 DSP Haruana further stated that, “the Commissioner of Police directed that, raids of such criminal hideouts should continue throughout the State, until all criminally minded people either repent or are arrested and brought before the law. Suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.  


“The CP thanked the good people of Kano State for their continuous support and cooperation. The Command will continue to remain resolute and steadfast in ensuring security of life and property.”
