From Maduabuchi Nmeribeh, Kano

The management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company(KEDCO), has  decried increasing meter bypass in Kano, regretting that in seven months, over 17, 000 customers shun vending in its franchise area of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.

The KEDCO management also lamented  rising cases of illegal connection, frowning at a situation where over 17, 190 metered customers had not vended between January and July, 2021.

In a Statement signed by KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, and made available to Journalists in Kano on Friday, KEDCO managment maintained that, “in spite our resolve not to get distracted in our efforts to ensure that all customers are metered in line with the desire of the Federal Government, we however, state that this menace is a major setback to that effort towards ending estimated billing system in our falranchise.

“Those engaging in bypassing meters are doing more harms than good to themselves and other customers, putting many others at risks  of fire outbreaks and KEDCO is very much concerned about the safety of its services in addition to quality.

“Meter bypassing has always resulted to major risk of shock and fire because electrical fires are on increased risk of meter tampering.

“In this regard and in line with our safety priority in our service delivery, anyone caught bypassing meters will be treated to the full weight of the law in line with their offences.

“We appeal to the general public to be vigilant as well as cautious to ensure that their meters are not tampered with.”
