Anambra guber: Celebrations as PDP candidate Ozigbo gets Appeal Court victory

From Isaac Ojo

There was wild jubilation in Awka, Anambra State capital on Friday as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) standard bearer in the November 6 governorship election got Appeal Court victory over Sen. Ugochukwu Uba.

Individuals and groups have continued to send congratulatory message to Mr Ozigbo and his party over the appeal court victory.

The Anambra State Chapter of PDP actually threw the floor open for the celebrations with a press statement from the Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Nnamdi Nwangwu.

Nwangwu said that Mr Ozigbo’s victory is a collective victory for every true member of the party in the state and beyond.

Mr Nwangwu noted that he was not surprised with the landmark judgement that has finally placed Sen. Uba where he actually belongs as Uba cannot sincerely claim to have participated in PDP governoship election primary.

“When other aspirants who ran alongside Mr Valentine Ozigbo in the PDP governoship election primary were busy mobilizing and canvassing for support of party faithful, Ugochukwu Uba was nowhere to be found.

“It is high mark of irresponsibility for an individual who did not participate in a process to attempt to frustrate the move of PDP to emerge victorious in the November 6 governorship election by getting his name published by INEC through the backdoor.” Nwangwu stressed.

The PDP image maker said that with Appeal Court victory, it has become incumbent for the party members to immediately begin to advertize the good product of PDP, Mr Valentine Ozigbo to the populace.

He also applauded Ndi Anambra for their continued faith in PDP and her governorship candidate Mr Valentine Ozigbo who he said is poise to give them a responsible and responsive governance which according to him has been missing in the state since APGA controlled government came on board seven years ago.

Nwangwu also thumbed up the Appeal Court panel presided over by Honourable Justice Dongban Mensa for their courage in the dispense of justice.

In its ruling on Friday, the Court of Appeal recognised the gubernatorial primary conducted by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP on June 26, 2021 at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre as lawful and was visibly upset with the 1st respondent and his lawyers for forum shopping.

The panel of Justices presided by Honourable Justice Dongban Mensa, also ordered the national electoral body, INEC, to immediately publish Valentine Ozigbo as the candidate of the PDP, the main opposition party on its website.

The court awarded a cost of ten million against the Senator Ugochukwu Ubah for being a meddlesome interloper.
This ruling paves the way for the PDP to launch its promised “robust campaign” for the governorship of the south-eastern state.

As at the time of filing this report, many PDP faithful and supporters of Mr Valentine Ozigbo were seen trooping to the Udoka Housing Estate campaign office of the PDP candidate not minding an heavy down pour.
