EHORECON partner with NCDC to tackle cholera outbreak

The Environmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON) and the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has agreed to synergize to tackle Cholera and other related diseases in the country.

Kehinde A. Openibo, Head, Public Affairs, EHORECON, in a statement released on behalf of the Registrar/CEO, said the agreement was reached when the EHORECON boss, Dr. Baba Yakubu Mohamed visited NCDC.

He said the EHORECON Registrar pleaded with the NCDC Director General, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu to establish the Environmental health and public health department in their establishment in order to facilitate easy coordination between the two organizations.

According to Dr. Baba “we want NCDC to also have a laboratory where water, air, food and soil can be analyzed at a good interval so as to be able to identify the disease possession which would go a long way to addressing foodborne diseases that are ravaging our society”.

The EHORECON Registrar acknowledged role of the NCDC boss in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic and extended a hand of fellowship for capacity-building between the two organizations to tackle emerging and re-emerging diseases.

The NCDC boss welcomed the EHORECON delegation and expressed hope that the discussions will be fruitful.

According to the NCDC boss. The “establishment of lab is quite an interesting point because we have been working with night trip of testing environmental samples”.

He said NCDC would work with Environmental Health Practitioners to achieve maximum results while he agreed with the EHORECON boss on building capacity for their men with strategic planning in place.Show quoted text
