The NYSC Director General Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has enjoined corps members to be guided by the spirit and letters of the NYSC Oath of Allegiance.
He said this while declaring open the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course today, Tuesday 7th September, 2021 at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Kubwa, Abuja.
The Director General who was represented by the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Alhaji Abdul Suleman, added that the corps members should meditate on the solemn and patriotic content of the NYSC Oath of Allegiance, Act and the Bye-laws.
He pointed out that the Orientation Course is a veritable platform to prepare corps members for leadership roles and contributions to the progress and development of the Nation through training on discipline, the four NYSC Cardinal Programmes, and leadership coaching.
The DG further urged them to get involved in the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme which is meant to equip them with entrepreneurial skill for self employment and wealth creation as opposed to searching endlessly for scarce white collar jobs.
He stressed on the utmost importance of adhering strictly to the non-pharmaceutical preventive protocols of COVID-19 as stipulated by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC); adding that the NYSC is insistent on testing for the virus in prospective corps members, all camp officials and others.
He, therefore, called “on all corps members and the camp community to ensure strict compliance” to the rules of wearing face masks, washing of hands regularly at the designated hand- wash bays in the camp among others as these rules will be continuously enforced.
The highlight of the occasion was administration of the oath of allegiance on the prospective Corps members by the representative of the Chief Judge of the FCT, Honourable Justice Suleiman Belgore.
Corps members in the Man ‘O’ War also put up a tug-of-war display to the delight of all.
