CP Babaji on patrol nab ‘one chance’ suspect in FCT

By Hassan Zaggi

The Commissioner of Police (CP), in charge of the  Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Babaji Sunday, on routine confidence building patrol has arrested a ‘one change’ suspect who tried to evade arrest.

One other suspect was arrested by officers of the command during a stop and search operation around the Wuse axis of the FCT.

This is even as the CP has assured residents of the FCT that the Command under his watch is committed to curtailing the activities of criminal elements popular known as “One-Chance” in the FCT.

The two suspects include Paul Danjuma , 27 years, indigene of Plateau State and a resident of Jiwa, Gwagwa, Abuja and Abubakar Mohammed, 42 years, indigene of Niger State and a resident of Jahi, Abuja.

A statement by the Command Spokesperson, DSP Adeh Josephine,  disclosed that preliminary investigations by the Police team revealed that the suspects pose as Taxi driver and a passenger standing by to pick other passengers.

“On this instance, the suspects picked up the female victim who had just closed from work, and on their way to her supposed destination, locked the car, changed the route, tied her up and demanded for her ATM card. “They also threatened to rape and kill her if she fail to cooperate with them.

“The sum of N391,000 was withdrawn from her account via ATM and POS transactions, while the sum of N10,000 cash which she had on her was collected from her.

“The suspects were however apprehended by operatives of the Wuse Division on stop and search duties specially tasked by the Command to look out for passengers who may have fallen victim of “one-chance” criminals,” the statement revealed.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects, according to the statement, include their operational vehicle, one black Toyota Corolla, N401,000), Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, 4 mobile phones, 2 sharp knives, ropes, foreign currency notes and duct tape.

While calling on residents of the FCT to support the Police by reporting all suspicious movements, the CP assured diligent investigations and prosecution of the suspects.

He further warned all perpetrators of “one-chance” and other forms of crimes and criminality within the FCT to desist forthwith, noting that the long-arm of the law is outstretched to catch up with them.

The CP deserves commendation. However, he should revisit the experiences of the staff members of WAZOBIA FM who were sometime ago rough handled by men of the disbanded SARS for attempting to arrest ONE CHANCE operators that stole from one of them earlier. Although SARS have been disbanded, those fellows are still in the Police and are certainly the bad elements promoting ONE CHANCE from the Police perspective.
