2023: GPMI Insist On Igbo Presidency, calls on Umahi to contest

Democracy is the rule of the people by the people and for the people. It is also a rule based on fairness, justice, equity and equality. It is a rule in which political power is derived from the sovereignty of the people as a community.

The President General of the Global Peace Movement International UK, Dr. Mike Uyi stated this in London on Wednesday stressing that the claim of power monopoly to be exercised by any one group in Nigeria is unacceptable and anti-democratic.

Uyi, speaking ahead of the 2023 Presidential election, noted that it is a very simple and clear-headed idea that if the North has ruled for eight years, power should automatically go to the South next. And when that power goes South, because both South – West and South–South have already had their turns, that power should automatically go to South – East.

He said GPMI remains resolute in their demand from the political actors to ensure that equity, justice, fairness and Federal Character Act was served to all the constituent parts of the Nigerian federation through balancing of political powers, zoning and rotation of presidential power in Nigeria.

“We wish to make it abundantly clear that any arrangement, be it at political stakeholders or political party levels, which denies the South East of the presidential slot in 2023 will be resisted by every possible legal means.

He said Governor David Umahi is a good candidate that the people of the South East and Nigerians in general should trust. He said GPMI is impressed with the governor’s transformational strides and would be “favoured” to do so at the national level.

“Global Peace Movement International is not  even sure if  Governor Umahi will accept the offer because he is not ambitious with the do or die Principles., but what Nigerians need now is Umahi as the number one citizen of this country  because of his clear vision of what democracy is all about”.

“GPMI has visited projects such as the modern rice mills across Ebonyi state, the fertiliser plants which meet the needs of the South-East zone and country, the ultra modern shopping mall that is a replica of the Dubai mall, among others.”

Uyi said with the realities on ground in Ebonyi, he has no doubt that he will do the country well when elected President come 2023.

“We call on all Nigerians of good conscience to rally support for the South East zone for the sake of equity,  justice and fairness. The political actors especially should embrace practices that will unite the country and not those that will further widen the gulf of division. We all need to consciously work for the peace and unity of this country. Umahi is the answer”, he concludes.
