China GDP hits 15.7 trillion dollars in 2020 says envoy

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Cui Jianchun has revealed that the country’s Gross Domestic Products rose from $10.5 billion in 1952 to $15.7 trillion in 2020, an increase of about 189 times real terms.

The envoy who spoke yesterday during a press briefing to the journalists ahead of National Day Celebration which is always marked in Oct 1st every year said China’s productivity and overall national interest have made historical strides.

“Also in nine day’s time , we will celebrate the 72nd birthday of the People’s Republic of China . over the past 72 years , China’s productivity
overall national interest have made historical strides. China’s GDP rose from about $10.5 billion in 1952 to $15.7 trillion in 2020, an increase of about 189 times in real terms. From 1979 to 2020, China’s GDP grew at an average annual 2.7% during the same period , and the speed and duration of economic growth are rarely seen in the world.”

He said,” according to the world economic outlook database of the International Monetary Fund, China will account for 17.4 percent of the global economy in 2020. Since 2006 , China has contributed the most to world economic growth for 15 years in a row.”

“By the end of 2020 , through eight years’ hard work since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2020, China has achieved the goal of eliminating extreme poverty , a key goal of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. The 98.99 million people in rural areas who were living below the current poverty standards all shook off poverty ; all the 128,000 impoverished villages and 832 designated poor countries got rid of poverty . China has won the battle against poverty and achieved the poverty reduction goals set out in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of scheduled,” the envoy stated.

Commenting on China’s and Nigeria’s independence anniversary which both countries mark every 1st October, the ambassador said the both countries are knitted together.

He said, “as 1st October is fast approaching , our joy is shared and happiness doubled , be it either in Nigeria or in China. On October 1st 1949, the People’s Republic of China was founded. On October 1st , 1960 Nigeria gains its independence. Celebrating “October 1st together constitutes a unique bond between China and Nigeria. We wish to congratulate our Nigerian brothers and sisters on 61st independence anniversary and feel pleased to see that great development achievements have been made by Nigerian people in the past 61 years.”

As the 14th Chinese envoy posted to Nigeria , he said ,” I have been here for nearly half a year , and I was deeply impressed that Nigeria is a treasure house , not only of natural resources but also of human resources. How to develop the bilateral relations based on achieved gains has always been a key question in my mind.”

In terms of fighting Covid-19 , he said recently Chinese government decided to donate 500 thousand doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Nigeria.
