Unknown gunmen strike in Nnobi, Nnewi, kill 6

Killers suspected to be unknown gunmen Sunday night struck in Nnobi in Idemili South local government area of Anambra State and in the industrial town of Nnewi leaving six people dead in their trail.

Sources said that the chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Uruagu-Nnewi Ward 1 Hon Chukwuemeka Benjamin Nwokenagu and four others with him were shot dead by the unknown gunmen.

The five persons were said to have met their untimely end when they ran into the gunmen at a point in Nnobi in a Prof Charles Soludo and APGA branded vehicle.

The body of the slain APGA ward chairman was said to be dumped in Alor, a neighboring community to Nnobi where youths from Nnewi recovered his corpse.

Another APGA stalwart, Dr Nelson Omenugha was however lucky as he escaped unhurt in a separate attack by the unknown gunmen.

Dr Omenugha’s Toyota Hilux vehicle was however said to be brutally burnt.

In a similar development, Hon Ofoma Somadina, an executive member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was also shot dead by the unknown gunmen in Nnewi.

Hon Somadina before his untimely death was a teacher and an executive member of APC in Uruagu-Nnewi.

A yet to be identified person who was with Hon Somadina during the attack was said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital for gunshot injuries.

The Nnewi community on Monday was morning thrown into a mourning mood as the news of the deadly attack by the unknown gunmen spread like a wild bush fire.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Anambra State police command, Ikenga Tochukwu(DSP) could not give the police angle of the incident when called by our correspondent.

DSP Tochukwu said that he was in a meeting.
