Kidnapping, Armed robbery: Police arrest 70- year-old man, two others in FCT

…tightens security in border communities

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have arrested a 70-year-old man, Sani Mani, and two others-Yahaya Haruna, 40; Isah Haruna, 55, for their complicity in kidnapping, armed robbery and   illegal possession of firearms.

The trio were arrested along the border communities of Tungan Maje and Kuje in the FCT.

The arrest was the outcome of the strengthening of security in the border communities  of the FCT by the Commissioner of Police, Sunday Babaji.

A statement by the Command Spokesperson, Edeh Josephine, explained that Yahaya Haruna was arrested by operatives of the Command’s anti-kidnapping unit in Tunganmaje market while in possession of a locally fabricated firearm. Further investigations indicated that the suspect- Yahaya is a member of notorious criminal gang that has been terrorizing residents of Tunganmaje community in recent times.

On the other hand, Police operatives also intercepted a vehicle loaded with food items which is being transported to an undisclosed location in Kuje area. Two suspects were arrested by the Police team with the food items.

After thorough investigations, it was discovered that the food items and other logistics were being transported to a location in Kuje already being monitored by the command following reports of activities of kidnappers in the area.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Babaji Sunday had since deployed additional Police personnel and operational asset to improve public safety and security in Kuje and Tunganmaje axis as well as other border communities in the FCT. 

While assuring the residents of the FCT of the renewed commitment to protecting their lives and property, CP Babaji enjoined them to continue to support the Police, particularly, by reporting all suspicious movements, emergencies and distresses, through 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883.
