2023: Seek for Elective Positions, Group advise Rivers Youths

From Douglas Blessing, Port Harcourt

Youths in Rivers State have been advised to get involved in the political process and seek for elective positions in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.

A non governmental organisation, NotTooYoungToRun Movement gave the advise on Monday.

The group noted the need for young people to take advantage of the age reduction law now fully operational in the country.

The state Coordinator of the movement, Chiefson Nwaiwu gave the advised while congratulating Rivers youths who emerged as state executives at the recently held All Progressives Congress (APC) state congress and those who participated as delegates at the National Convention of the PDP over the weekend.

Nwaiwu said “the time has come for youths to move beyond playing cheering and passive roles to fully and actively participating in the electoral process by contesting for public offices”.

He said Rivers youths have what it takes to make the state an industrial and digital hub bolstering with economic activities.

“As 2023 draws close, Rivers youths must make their energy, numbers, intelligence and social media influence count. Youths should take advantage of the age reduction law and make themselves available for elective positions in the state.

“This is the right time to start because they should not expect to the goalposts will be moved for them. They will need to play the politics, to engage with the electorate, to show the people that they can truly make a difference.

“As the foremost group advocating for inclusion and active participation of capable youths in government, the movement will always support such young candidates in the state and the nation at large”, Nwaiwu added.
