From Everest Ezihe, Owerri

The power tussle in the Imo state House of Assembly took another twist Tuesday as the Deputy Speaker; Hon. Amara Iwuanyanwu, was impeached at a plenary amidst tight security.

The House also recalled its six members who were earlier suspended in a controversial manner on July 8, at a plenary which attracted sporadic gunshots before the Speaker was smuggled out by his security aides.

The recalled lawmakers are, Kennedy Ibe ( Obowo), Onyemaechi Njoku (Ihitte Uboma), Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru), Anyadike Nwosu (Ezinihitte Mbaise), Philip Ejiogu, (Owerri North), and Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West)

Iwuanyanwu’s impeachment may have left much to be desired, as he is said to be one of the powerful lawmakers that command much respect in the Assembly, following his rumoured support and tie with the state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma

Hon. Iwuanyanwu also doubles as the General Overseer of the state’s owned football club, Heartland FC

The Deputy Speaker’s  suspension was contained in a resolution, which was submitted by Hon. Ekene Nnodim, (Orlu State Constituency), and signed by 18 out of the 27 lawmakers.

Speaker Paul Emezim, who presided over the plenary, hit his gavel in approval of the resolution to authenticate the impeachment of Iwuanyanwu, even as the content was not read
