ACCI Sensitises Members on Dual Vocational Training

Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) sensitised members on competency-based Dual Vocational Training (DVT) to enlighten them on the advantages of the programme and how it enhances staff productivity within the organisation.

The Competence-based Dual Vocational Training on Office Administration and Skills-Based Technical Facility Operations and Maintenance Training is supported by GIZ Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE) program.

The Director-General ACCI, Victoria Akai in her opening remarks at the workshop stated that the dual vocational training (DVT) combines classroom-based learning with practical workshop and industry experience.

“This focussed blend of theory and practice is geared towards giving trainees good start into employment since they acquire not only the required technical knowledge but also gain hands-on experience by the time training has been completed, therefore a successful implementation of this program requires the commitment and support of all relevant stakeholders.”

She said since the commencement of the DVT program in Nigeria, the Chamber has always been at the forefront of promoting and supporting it because we understand its importance and potential to meet the enormous skills requirement of our member companies.

The DG also said the Chamber through its Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology (BEST) Centre -the training arm of the Chamber and GIZ SKYE-SEQUA has further partnered in revising the curriculum and delivery of the training in Office Administration (OA) and Technical Facilities Operations and Maintenance (TFOM), and member companies are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to further equip and develop the capacity of their employees.

“This awareness and sensitization workshop will also broaden our understanding and knowledge on the competency based dual vocational training system. I urge all our distinguished members here present to take full advantage of the opportunity provided by this training program to up-skill their employees for optimum performance.”

A faculty member at ACCI BEST-Centre, Dr. Ayuba Ibrahim also enjoined all participants at the training to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the training for the advantage of their organisations.
He said the private sector has been faced with a challenge of unskilled labour and has faced several difficulties due to this, hence the importance of a competency-based training.

The Director of ACCI-BEST Centre, Tinuke Temitope encouraged private sector organizations to key into competency-based Dual Vocational Training for prospective employees and current employees adding that the delivery of competency-based training should be supported by the private sector as they play a key role in its effectiveness.
