Ebonyi NAWOJ encourages school children to speak up against GBV

The National Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ) Ebonyi State chapter, Thursday, carried out a sensitization programme at the Democracy Primary and Nursery School, Aguogboriga layout, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

The sensitization programme was part of the activities marking the 16 Days Of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, and this year theme is: Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now”. 

16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls.

The campaign runs every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day. 

It was initiated in 1991 by the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute, held by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) at Rutgers University.

The team was led to the sensitization programme by the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Nkechinyere Oginyi, represented by the Secretary, Comrade Chinyere Okey.

The students were sensitized on Gender Based Violence such as, rape, Child Education as well as early marriage.

They were also encouraged to speak up when violated or somebody around them is being violated. 

 The Headmistress of the School, Mrs. Patricia Oguejiofor, appreciated NAWOJ for the visit and promised that they would continue to inculcate good habits on the children.

On behalf of the pupils, Miss Chidera Nwodo promised they would be good ambassadors to other children, and would always speak out whenever they or their neighbors are violated.
