NEDC boss advocates adequate security for educational institutions

The Federal Commisioner (North-East) at the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and Chairman, North-East Development Commission Education Endowment Fund (NEDC-EEF), Mr. David Sabo Kente, has emphasized the need for stakeholders  to take security as the front burner agenda to ensure schools environment are fully secured for effective learning.


He made the appeal at the 2021 NUJ FRCN HQ Chapel Press week held in Abuja.


According to the Mr. Kente, one of the most critical ways of promoting education across the country is to create a conducive and safe learning environment for students.


While emphasising the need for every Nigerian to work towards ensuring security in schools across the country, he commended the NUJ FRCN-HQ Chapel for the theme of this year’s NUJ Week tagged: “Effective Border Security: A Panacea for Safe Schools and Society”.


In a remark, the Executive Secretary, Border Community Development Agency (BCDA), Capt. Junaid Abdullahi, represented by the Head of Department, Planning, Inter-Governmental and Community Relations, Mallam Ibrahim Kwajafa, said efforts were in top gear between the department and relevant stakeholders to improve border security.


The Host of the NUJ Week and Director-General, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr. Mansur Liman, represented by a Deputy Director (News), Mr. Olufemi Fulani, reiterated the need to improve educational content to provide for creativity both in learning and safety.


The Chairman, NUJ FRCN-HQ Chapel, Comrade Sandra Udeike, in a welcome address, explained that the event was designed to provide panacea to the high rate of insecurity bedevelling the nation, especially institutions of learning.


The event which featured Merit Media Awards presented to some staff of the FRCN was sponsored by a Benue State  Governorship Aspirant for 2023 Election and former Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, Mr. Terver Akase.


Fubara Pepple was awarded Presenter of the Year, while Biodun Dare emerged Editor of the Year.


Olayemi Daniyan bagged Commentary Writer of the Year, while Saadatu Albashir, got the award for New Media Content Editor of the Year.


Reporter of the Year went to Tersoo Zamber, Sports Reporter of the Year was Christy Dashe, Chief Librarian of the Year was awarded Alilu Abu, while Phineas Uduoyo went home with Studio Manager of the Year Award, and Idara Ukpayang, Best Producer of the Year.
