Armed Forces Remembrance Day: PDP seeks improved welfare for soldiers

By Myke Uzendu, Abuja

As part of it’s efforts to celebrate the efforts to the military, The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the Federal government to pay more attention to the welfare of the armed forces and members of their family.

PDP in a statement signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, to mark the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, which held in the nation’s capital, Abuja on Saturday, felicitated with members of the Nigerian Armed forces for their courage, loyalty, sacrifice and resilience in defending the nation, particularly in the face of resurged insecurity in the last six years.

The PDP acknowledged the bravery and patriotism of the gallant soldiers in the frontlines, who despite the daunting challenges, daily put their lives on the line, with many paying the supreme price for the unity and security of the country.

According to the party, The Armed Forces Remembrance Day presents the government the occasion for sober reflection to get more committed towards internal security and the fight against terrorism in the country, particularly in limiting the extent of avoidable danger which the military is exposed to daily.

The PDP further demanded that the government takes steps to provide the military with adequate equipment as well as improve on the welfare of troops to ensure effectiveness in their duty to the nation.

The Party urged the government to ensure the wellbeing of the families of fallen heroes who gave their lives for the nation. PDP said that their families and loved ones should not be allowed to continue to suffer.

PDP urged Nigerians to continue to support and pray for the armed forces in their onerous task of protecting the country just as it asked Nigerians to  continue to supplicate for the unity of the nation.
