The Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina and the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the National Assembly, Kingsley Chinda, on Thursday expressed divergent views on the problems facing the country.
Speaking at a national discourse on the state of the nation organised
by a civil society organisation, Vanguard for Transparent Leadership and Democracy (VATLAD) in Abuja, Chinda, called for the resignation of public officers holders that have failed to deliver on their electioneering promises.
The member representing Obi Akpor Federal Constituency of Rivers State, who lamented the worsening economic situation, corruption as well as insecurity, called on Buhari to resign over his inability to address the present challenges in the nation.
“Mr President has done well so far for this country but as of today he is not fit for purpose,” Chida said.
But Adesina, who also spoke at the event, lamented the attitude of the lawmaker and many other Nigerians, saying they are always quick to point out areas the Buhari’s administration is not doing well and hardly commend him in many areas he has done well.
On the insecurity in the country, Adesina said billions of naira have been expended to tackle the problem and called for the needed support to overcome the challenge.
“We should not play politics with everything, especially security which has gulped billions. The security situation is dire but the Federal Government has been tackling the problem,” Adesina said.
Earlier, National President of VATLAD, Comrade (Engr) Igbini Odafe Emmanuel, said the public discourse on the state of the nation was organised to proffer solutions to the challenges confronting the country.
“We are here to find solutions and identify the challenges confronting our country,” Igbini said.
Igbini, who identified some of the problems facing the country to include insecurity, political violence, the downward trend of the economy, among others, expressed concerns over the appearance of fuel queues in the country despite the Petroleum Industrial Act.
He, however, commended President Buhari for his unwavering commitment to reposition the country on the right path, even as he called on state governors to also play their role especially in tackling insecurity and development of infrastructure.
“The President deserved commendation, if governors are performing, he will have less job to do,” Igbini added.
