Members of the Oil Consortium importing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into the country have said that they are innocent of the alleged Importation of adulterated fuel.

The consortium stated this on Tuesday while they appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) over the alleged importation of contaminated fuel.

The Consortium consist of four oil companies which include; Emadeb Energy, Hyde Energy, A.Y Maikifi and Brittania-U said that Brittania operated alone.
While making a presentation on behalf of three members of the consortium; Emadeb Energy, Hyde Energy and A.Y Maikifi during the committee hearing Chief Operating Officer (COO) Emadeb Energy, Adebowale Olujimi said the consortium had a Direct Sale, Direct Purchase (DSDP) agreement with the NNPC.

He said: “The Consortium was awarded the the DSDP contract on June 22, 2021 by NNPC. The delivery of the petroleum product and crude lifting have been done strictly on a rotational basis by the respective consortium members.

“Some of the consortium members-Emadeb/Hyde and A.Y Maikifi immediately engaged a reputable international company for delivery of all PMS cargoes and prompt loading of crude oil, while Brittania-U chose to engage a different entity for her own supplies”.

He added that, Brrittania-U also preferred to deal directly with NNPC and took responsibility for all her transactions without recourse to the other consortium members.
He added: The other consortium members-Emadeb/Hyde and A.Y Maikifi have successfully delivered 270,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) while Brittania-U also delivered 90,000 MT PMS”

However, during her presentation, the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Uju Ifejika said, the fuel they imported was subjected to all the necessary tests and certified by inspectors including those of the NNPC.
She accused NNPC of concealing what really transpired regarding the quality specification tests and certification of the PMS imported by the company.

Soeaking, Chairman of the committee, Ahmed Abdullahi Gaya (APC, Kano) informed that, they invited the oil consortium to get the extent of their role in the importation of the high Methanol content fuel which created an aute scarcity as well as attendant individual and collective economic losses and hardship it caused the country and it’s citizens.

He said, the companies were required to submit all relevant documents regarding the said importation and the volume of products involved which the committee will look into and invite them for more explanation in the matter.

It could be recalled that, the GMD, NNPC Ltd, Mele Kyari had earlier last week appeared before the committee and explained what happened and the companies involved as well as measures being taken to mitigate the situation.
