Gawuna  Wins Kano APC Governorship  Ticket

Deputy Governor and former Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources,  Dr. Yusuf Nasiru Gawuna,  has clinched the governorship ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC)  for the 2023 governorship election in the state. 

Gawuna  won in a landslide with the full support of his boss,  Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. 

He is to fly the party’s flag with former Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs,  Mr.  Mortala Sule Garo, popularly known within the Kano political circle as Commander. 

Gawuna had defeated member representing Kano Municipal at the House of Representatives,  Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada to emerge the gubernatorial flagbearer of APC, after a keenly contested primary election, at Sani Abacha Stadium Indoor Sports Hall. 

The Chairman of the Gubernatorial Primary Election Committee, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, while declaring the result  said Gawuna polled 2,289 votes, while the other aspirant Sha’aban got 30 votes.

According t him,  the total number of delegates for the exercise stood at 2,420, those accredited for the exercise still 2,420, the total votes cast is 2,339 while invalid votes were 20.

He stated that,  “I Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, Chairman of Kano APC Governorship Primary Election Committee on behalf of the National working committee of our party hereby announced that results for this election have been collated and counted accordingly. I hereby certified that Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna having scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner.

“He is, therefore, the standard flag bearer of the APC in the Gubernatorial election that will take place in 2023 in Kano State.”

Gawuna, in his shirt remarks,  praised  God for the victory, and appreciated the support of Governor Ganduje, the party leaders, delegates and stakeholders. 

“I appealed to all party members to join hands and work hard towards the success and victory of the APC during the general election,” he added. 

Governor Ganduje who was apparently  happy over the outcome of the exercise,  commended the Election Committee for conducting transparent primary election. 

The primary election was supervised by the representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, while  the Police and the Department of State Security Services (DSS), provided adequate security.
