From Maduabuchi Nmeribeh,  Kano

Philanthropist cum business mogul,  Abdulssalam Abdulkarim Zaura popularly known as A. A Zaura,  has clinched the Kano Central Senatorial ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Having won the ticket,  A. A Zaura is expected to slug it out with former Governor of the state  and the incumbent Senator representing the District,  Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.

Malam Shekarau recently left APC and joined the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) led by his former political enemy,  Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwwbkwaso.

However,  Senator Ibrahim Kabiru Gaya of Kano South and Senator Barau Jubrin of Kano North also got the ticket to contest  under the platform of the APC.

The duo are sitting Senators representing their Districts.

In fact,  Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje,  in the spirit of peace and stability within the party,  terminated his earlier ambition to go to the Senate for the sake of Senator Barau Jubril who hails from the same Senatorial District with him.

However,  by population,  Kano Central is the largest Senatorial District   in Nigeria.

The Returning Officer of the APC Kano Central Senatorial primary election, Senator Tijjani Kaura, announcing the result of the election held  at  the Sani Abacha indoor stadium, Kano said , “Zaura emerged the winner after polling 758 votes, beating his only rival, Sen. Bashir Garba Lado, who polled 77.”

According  to him,  the total number of voters for the election was 855 and the same figure was accredited but 836 votes were cast with 1 invalid vote, bringing the total valid votes 835.

He added that,   “AA Zaura, having certified the requirements of law and scoring the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner.”

The AUTHORITY reports that the election had three aspirants but Barrister Isma’il Ahmad withdrew his aspiration at the commencement of the election narrowing the contest to the two contenders ,A. A Zaura  and Garba Lado.
