A group under the aegis of Plateau Project 2, a political movement made up of members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Plateau state said it will continue with court cases to challenge the imposition of the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda and other candidates of the party ahead of the 2023 elections.
It also faulted the process that led to the emergence of delegates that conducted the party’s primary election which brought on board candidates of the party, saying the process was not transparent as there was no election in line with the new electoral guideline.
The group in a press statement made available to journalists in Jos on Thursday after a meeting signed by its Chairman, Barr. Umar Shittien and Moderator, Chief Amos Gizo said the party has never conducted election since it came on board in 2015 as it also imposed candidates for the last local government election in the state.
Its vowed not to allowed the APC get away with the age long impunity which the party has perpetrated over sometime and said it is ready to correct all the illegality and wrongs committed by the powers that be.
The statement said, “That all court cases in respect to imposition shall be pursued to conclusion. That all petitions and complain about imposition shall be pursue to logical conclusion.”
Its noted also some of the issues discussed at the meeting as “The undemocratic imposition of party officials at the ward, Local Government Area, State and at the National level; Imposition of Councillorship candidates, Local Government Chairmenship candidates.
“Also, imposition of House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senatorial
Candidates who were deprived of their rights to contest election after being cleared by the party to contest. Imposition of preferred Governorship candidate on the party in the state at the detriment of the 19 other aspirants.
“Blatant refusal refusal by the party to conduct the election of delegates for the conduct of the party primaries for all political offices as provided by the party guidelines and constitution of the APC.
The statement said the 18 governorship aspirants who indicated interest in contesting the party’s primaries, Senate and House of Representatives aspirants, members of APC Advisory Council, Equity and Justice Movement among others.
