Why medical professionals migrate from Nigeria – NMA PRESIDENT

President of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Dr.Uche  Rowland Ojinmah has disclosed that improved condition of service and enhanced welfare packaged commensurate with what obtains in other countries will bring the exodus of medical professionals to a halt.

Dr. Ojinmah made the disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy call to The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

A Statement from the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry, Eric Ojiekwe on Tuesday revealed that the NMA team also exposed to the Pernanent Secretary, some of the challenges facing the medical profession in the country such as: condition of service, working tools and remuneration.

The NMA boss also used the occasion to congratulate the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on her well-deserved appointment, enjoining her to use her good offices to further the cause of the Association.

Responding, Dr. Ajani assured that Federal Government will continue to provide conducive working environment for medical personnel to forestall the mass exodus of medical personnel, especially medical doctors to foreign countries.                       

“We’ll continue to have conversations with the young doctors and have their buy – in because there is no better place than home. No better place than here. Those of us who have had the opportunity of working outside would definitely say here is better,” she added.       

Other members of the delegation include Dr. Philips Uche Ekpe, immediate past Secretary General, of NMA and Dr. Jide Jasper Onyekwelu, Secretary General of NMA.
