We’re keen on workers’ welfare – AMAC

By Daniel Tyokua

The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Christopher  Maikalangu, said his administration would do more to better the well-being of the staff.

Maikakalangu stated this on Tuesday, when he received the Admin Secretary, FCT Area Councils Service Commission, Barr. Muhammed Loko, in his office.

In statement issued by Senior Special Assistant on Media to the chairman, Kinsley Madaki noted that the policy conceived by his leadership is with the objectives of improving productivity as well as attracting, nurturing and retaining the best employees within the service.

According to Maikalangu, “Despite the dwindling federal allocations, since we came on board, we have done our best towards ensuring that workers salaries are paid as when due in spite of the continuous shortfall in our statutory revenues.

“We will continue to ensure that workers welfare is our number one priority. We have taken measures to ensure a total blockage of revenue leakages in the council. New policies are being introduced and more policies will be coming onboard in matter of days.

Maikalangu vowed that AMAC must not be seen as a dumping ground for job seekers but must attract the best and the brightest, who will contribute fresh ideas and show a determination to solve our socio-economic problems in line with our policy  of running an open,  transparent and accountable administration.

“Unfortunately, we have discovered that some workers here are either partisan or are conniving with the  so-called consultants to perpetrate corruption and some, were evidently agents and surrogates of their paymasters.

Meanwhile, he reiterated that the council will no longer treat proven acts of corruption with kid gloves, neither would it condone lateness to work, truancy and absenteeism. “The  Commission,  Head of Administration and other Heads should please assist us in this direction,” he said.
