…as Labour Party goes back to drawing board.

From Maurice Okafor,Enugu.

Ahead of the 2023 General elections, the Peoples Democratic Party[PDP],Enugu state chapter, is not giving chances in it’s desire to maintain it’s strong hold of political leadership of Enugu state. In addition to the campaign structure of it’s governorship candidate,Dr Peter Mbah, which has established  support groups in almost all communities in Enugu state, the state wing of the party on Tuesday,November 8, constituted a campaign committee of over One thousand,Seven hundred and Ninety stakeholders to campaign vigorously for all candidates of the party in all the elective positions.

The  Enugu state PDP campaign train which has kicked off with campaign tour of Aninri local government area of the state intends to visit all the 17 Council areas and 57 development centers in the state in it’s bid to convince the electorates to vote for only  candidates of the party in all the elections. The Enugu state PDP have a track record to have won and controls of the 260 electoral wards in the state, the 17 local government councils, all the 24 members of the state house of assembly and the National assembly  legislators, likewise the number one citizen of the state since the inception of the fourth republic dispensation in 1999.

The speculation that the opposition parties will revise the trend in 2023 general elections, most especially the ‘Obedient Movement’ which  gripped the political landscape of  South East zone of the country  is still a mirage. The Labour party in Enugu state is still faced with internal wranglings of who becomes the authentic governorship candidate of the party, as an Abuja federal high court on Wednesday,November 10, presided over by Justice Maha,in it’s judgement ordered for a fresh guber primaries between Barr Chijioke Edeoga and Chief Evaristus Nnaji.

The harmonious relationship existing among  the new and old political  stakeholders within Enugu state PDP leverages it to be ahead of the other three major parties, APC, APGA and Labour Party by a wide margin. The alleged  fears that the embattled Senator Ike Ekweremadu camp of PDP  will leave PDP, at long last has turned out to be an illusion. The Ekweramadu loyalists last week declared their total support for Dr Peter Mbah governorship ambition, stating their decision was in tandem with the stand of Senator Ekweremadu before the ugly fate that befell him.

The PDP  also factored the founding fathers of the party as Chief Jim Nwobodo, the ex civilian governor of defunct old Anambra state and Dr Okwy Nwodo, the pioneer civilian governor of Enugu state cum a former National chairman of the party into it’s campaign fold as members of the advisory council

The state PDP Campaign council shared the position of deputy Director General of the campaign organisations across the three senatorial zones of the state. with Hon Okey Ogbodo as deputy Director General for Enugu East senatorial district. Hon Ogbuefi Ozomgbachi, who represented Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, in the House of Representatives, was appointed as deputy Director General,Enugu West senatorial district while Dr Dan Shere, a former Secretary to the State Government(SSG) came on board the campaign train, as deputy Director General,Enugu North senatorial zone.

Dr Eric Oluedo, a stalwart of the party, who held various positions both as a commissioner Senator Chimaroke Nnamani and Sullivan led administration in Enugu state, was assigned the role of Secretary General of Enugu state PDP Campaign committee.

Some of the committees include the Inter P arty Affairs headed by Hon KGB Oguakwa.Hon USA Igwesi, who is heading Support Groups,Dr Martins Chukwunwike, heading the medical committee and Chief Nana Ogbodo,Public Communications.

Hon Rita Mbah was appointed as the state PDP Women Coordinator, Dr Mrs Olangwa as head of diaspora,Comrade UWakwe Ezeja as head of trade union committee,as Engr Nwakoby heads Non Indigene committee. There also the security and safety committee,Transport Committee,Finance Committee, among others.

Amidst fears of strong opposition from the opposition parties to halt PDP control of all elective positions in Enugu state in the 2023 general elections, Checks reveals that PDP is the only party in the state that fielded candidates for all elective  positions and have so far harmonized it’s dissecting voices.
