The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State,Dr Peter Mbah, has expressed confidence that himself and candidates of the party vying for the state house of assembly seats on Saturday, March 11 will win the elections, not minding the fact that Labour party had the upper hand in the February 25 Presidential and National assembly elections in Enugu state.
Dr Mbah expressed this confidence while featuring on Channels Television political programme tagged ‘Road Map 2023′,yesterday.
He described the governorship and state assembly elections as a different ball game.stating that Enugu state electorates will vote for competent characters.
He stated’ “Our people are interested in making sure that they are led by someone who has the background to tackle the challenges we are faced with at the moment.
“They will be looking at quality, and I do not think that any of the opposition candidates who will come close to what we have offered to the people of Enugu State,” he said.
Emphasising his blue print of development, Dr Mbah restated his proposal to grow the state’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from its current size of $4.4 billion to at least $30 billion in the next eight years of his administration.
He added that his administration will create the necessary policy and physical environments for the private sector to invest optimally in the state.
He assured to tap on the huge mineral deposits to improve on the state government’s internal generated revenue base.
He described allegations of having been indicted or tried in the law court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged misuse of funds when he served as commissioner of finance under the administration of ex governor Chimaroke Nnamani as false.
His words,”My name was struck out of the charge sheet. I neither underwent any trial by the EFCC, nor entered into a plea bargain with them, yet I have been a victim of malicious attacks by people who don’t have anything to offer to the people,” he said.
On the controversy surrounding his NYSC,Dr Mbah said he under went the compulsory one year programme and was honourably discharged along side his mates on completion of the programme.
