The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, on Thursday, disclosed that the federal government worked against his re – election bid, and supported his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opponent in the March 18 governorship election, following his position and rejection of the Naira re design policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
He also said the federal government deployed more military in Zamfara during the election than when the state government requested military assistance to defeat out insurgents.
Governor mattawale, who spoke in Zamfara, said, the security situation would have been better than it is today had the military been deployed earlier, rather than for election purpose.
“What’s being said is that we went to the court over new naira notes redesign. They said myself, Ganduje, and El Rufai would be punished accordingly,” Matawalle said in an interview with DW Hausa.
It would be recalled that Matawalle who ran on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), lost to his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Lawal Dauda

Matawalle emerged governor in 2019 on the PDP ticket after a court of appeal judgment nullified the APC primary elections which made Muktar Idris the candidate and winner of the election.
